The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Face Mist Review

This weekend the weather has been absolutely scorching, a rarity in England that we must make the most of! I’m sure we have all been enjoying the warmer climate of recent, but there’s one thing that we can’t leave behind. Our skin.

There are so many misconceptions about sun damage and wearing SPF. The sun omits UV rays, which are a type of ionising radiation (think back to year 9 science guys, I know it’s a stretch!). Ionising radiation causes cells to mutate, which in turn potentially causes cancer. This is why failure to protect your skin from the sun can cause skin cancer.

Another point we must be clear on, is that wearing SPF protection only when it’s super hot is not sufficient. Even on cloudy, cold days UV rays are strong enough to penetrate through clouds and harm your skin. Personally I wear a BB cream with an added SPF, and I put this on everyday.

How does it perform?

The Body Shop recently launched this skin defence multi-protection face mist, as part of their drops of light range. Now, it’s difficult to review such a product because this is a protectant, a defensive product. It’s not the type of skincare that will change the look and feel of your skin, therefore you won’t see any immediate changes.

However, before even using the product I have to say it is a brilliantly thought out face mist. Because not only does it protect from harmful UV rays, it is anti-pollution. Air quality is high on the environmental agenda in London, our air quality is poor. This weekend I had a lovely drive down to Surrey, with my roof down – and I could literally taste exhaust fumes. We know that poor air quality is bad for our respiratory system, so how can it be good for our skin? The answer is, it isn’t. It can cause irritation, redness, dry patches and premature ageing.

This is a great little all round product. The face mist is SPF 30 (good amount of protection), anti-pollution, anti-oxidant and 100% Vegan. I chose to use it before my make up application, and I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of SPF containing creams and primers are often thick on the skin, and give a shiny finish – which is not great for someone with excessively oily skin like myself! I end up looking like I’ve just stepped fresh out of a sauna. This face mist is lightweight, I took it out with me for the day and found it refreshing to spray on the face repeatedly. It’s cooling, so it’s revitalising in the warm weather.

I really would recommend this product to everyone. Everyone needs to protect their skin, and this face mist makes it an enjoyable experience rather than a chore. It smells fresh, it’s lightweight – and it provides a substantial amount of protection against sun damage and pollution.

I bought one and have been using it for the past month now. During the day it cause me eye irritation that may last until the following day along with a slight headache. Not sure what’s wrong but these effects are quite concerning.

Hi Sachoy, in this case I would advise to discontinue use as one of the ingredients may be reacting with your skin. Also, you should probably continue The Body Shop and let them know. I’m sorry to hear about this bad experience you’ve had with the product.
