I have to admit I love a multi-use product, and the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Lip Oil Crystal Elixir is just that! It boasts to incorporate the power of a serum, and the comfort of an oil, claiming to boost lip volume by 70% in 28 days. The lip oil is enriched with a blend of potent plant extracts and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and smooth lips. It can be used as a lip conditioner by day, and overnight as a lip mask.
Without fear of sounding superficial this product caught my eye firstly with its packaging, I adore the use of holographic images. But aside from that (because I’m not a basic bitch) it grabbed my attention because it claims to plump lips, and provide extreme hydration. One thing to note about me is that I am addicted to Carmex. Like it’s a real thing, the little yellow pot is glued to my hand 24/7 (if you know me in real life, you’ll know this is in no way even a slight exaggeration). If I cannot find my Carmex tin for more than five minutes, I have a panic attack – serious separation anxiety going on. But this reliance is due to taking Isotretinoin a few years back, (a strong retinol acne medication) and it dries out your lips. Erm, not just whilst you take the medication, apparently for the rest of your life. So I thought that if I can use a product that conditions my lips overnight, perhaps it will help my lips not to be so dry during the course of the day.
How does it perform?
At £28 for 8ml worth of lip oil this product is not cheap, but you do get what you pay for. You notice right away that the lip oil, does quite literally smell magical. There are sweet soft notes of vanilla, camellia seed oil and aloe vera – tempting you to lick your lips upon every application!
In terms of texture it is oily, but it isn’t greasy or sticky. It smooths the lip contours, sitting on lips comfortably – it barely feels as if you have anything on them. It’s easy to apply with a roller ball applicator, which ensures your senses are heightened every time you roll it! (I can’t get over the divine smell).
I have to admit that the lip oil does feel like a special treat for the lips, and I am always down for a product that emphasises use of science powered and natural ingredients.
I am yet to comment on its lip plumping abilities, as I have not been using it long enough to tell. However, I did leave the lip oil on overnight as a conditioning treatment. I can confirm it has helped to alleviate my dry lip anxiety – and this can only be a positive thing! Because the lip oil is so light, it hardly feels I’m bombarding my lips with product. It’s more likely a nourishing, luxuriant treatment. And who doesn’t want that?
