AD | GIFTED All opinions are my own, however this was a gifted experience from Duck and Dry.
I’ll be honest with you, apart from micro ring hair extensions no hairdresser has touched my hair in the best part of the last ten years. I have been bleaching / dying my roots myself since I was at high school! And when I need a trim I have been asking my mum to cut my dead ends off (she is in no way a professional hairdresser). So when I was kindly invited to Duck & Dry’s new Islington Salon Launch for a complimentary blow dry I was excited – but at the same time filled with dread!
However, the experience I had at Duck and Dry was sensational. Firstly let me just say that the attention to detail in the new Islington salon is astonishing – aesthetically pleasing does not even cut it! There are individually lit selfie mirrors, neon signs, plants, a ball pit (which I did fall in, and suffice to say, struggled to get back out of) and even a swinging chair. It’s honestly as if this salon was designed specifically for the creation of social media content.
Not only is the salon great to look at, the atmosphere and service I received was amazing. As I mentioned I was quite anxious for a real hairdresser to see the awful state of my hair, and apprehensive to see how the blow dry would turn out. When you are so used to doing your own hair, you know exactly how you like it – so trusting a stranger is difficult. But my leap of faith was well worth it! I had a wavy blow dry on my shoulder length hair which looked so glamorous (and hid the uneven cut, butchered by my mother), my stylist was friendly, helpful and ever so professional. With a glass of prosecco in toe, it was a real pampering experience.
In addition to their famous blow dries and up do’s, the salon also offers manicures and pedicures at their resident nail bar; which is again ever so pretty, elegant and Instagrammable. In the Islington branch the nail bar is pink with neon signs, a marble top counter and a pink and grey sofa area.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions being in place, my experience at Duck and Dry was great. I wore my mask throughout my hair being washed and blow-dried, and my friend and I more or less had the salon to ourselves (I believe specific time slots were allocated to influencers in order to allow for social distancing). I felt safe, pampered and like a new woman when I left the salon. I’d definitely recommend having your blow dry virginity taken by these guys, seeing as I had such a fun time losing mine.
